But let’s talk about something else you can focus on right away. This is something you can do to start earning more today. That is getting more out of your current customers and clients. As a marketer, you’ve no doubt learned about the lifetime value of a client. But have you really thought about what that means for your business?

Consider how much time you spend chasing after new customers and clients. It’s a fantastic idea to grow your list and make sales from brand-new customers. But that shouldn’t come at the expense of providing value and making easy money from those who already know, like, and trust you.

New Customers or Past Customers?

Do you have active campaigns going that cater to your current customers? Or, do you focus most of your activities on acquiring new customers? Think about your actions over the past few months and whether you’ve really served the needs of your current customers.

For instance, let’s say you had a really high response for a particular product you released. You got great feedback and customers asked a lot of questions about a method you covered within the product—they’re practically salivating with excitement but still want to know so much more. You answer those questions as best as you can, but you still focus most of your energy on creating a new guide to appeal to a new set of customers.

What’s wrong with that picture? You’ve ignored an easy opportunity to make more sales and satisfy a group of fans you’ve already helped. Creating a quick and easy guide as an extension or upsell would have been easy money.

Again, writing new guides and attracting new customers is a very valuable and important activity. But, you can better serve your current customers and make easier sales with a few simple tweaks. Pay more attention to your current customers than you do right now.

For instance, why not create a membership program where you offer individual help to these current customers who have specific questions? Or, you can create a more advanced book or product directed specifically to the questions they have.

It’s so much easier to sell to a customer who’s already happy with what you’ve provided. It can be hard to gain people’s trust in today’s society. You’ve managed to gain the trust of your customers—that’s a huge win. Provide them with exactly what they want and need to boost your income.

Create upsells to promote specifically to those who’ve purchased a particular product of yours. Create add-on products that take what they’ve learned a step further. Create specialized services, including high-end and high-priced services, to serve the needs of those who need it.

You’ll make many more sales from an audience that’s already bought and loved your work.

The Importance of Word-Of-Mouth Marketing

There’s another aspect of your current customers that you might be overlooking. That is word of mouth marketing. Your customers might write you all the time to tell you how much they appreciate your work and how much it’s helped them. This makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside… But are you using this feedback to the fullest?

It’s very simple to better utilize this customer feedback. If someone emails you or calls you to tell you they really enjoyed your work or were helped by it, ask them if you can put their words on your sales page.

Social proof does a lot for marketing. If you have a sales page that’s well written but totally lacks customer feedback, you’re going to lose a certain subset of potential customers. They won’t be sure if they can trust you or if the product is right for them. You get more of a pass if you’re well known but this honestly helps all marketers.

Having customer feedback and testimonials on the page provides that social proof and will help boost your conversion rates. All you have to do is ask, and this simple technique can help you earn more money.

You can also ask your customers to spread the word about you and your products. Again, all you have to do is ask. You can even set up a formal referral system where you can incentivize others for spreading the news about you or your products and services.

Word-of-mouth marketing is the best there is. It’s totally free and absolutely effective. Get some simple systems in place to get the word of mouth marketing chain in motion. Just say the word and your biggest fans and cheerleaders will naturally want to talk about you and recommend your products.

Implement a formal referral system and let people know you would really appreciate referrals, incentivizing them where appropriate, and you’ll be able to take advantage of word-of-mouth-marketing that works better than anything you could ever pay for.

There’s no doubt about it– your current customers are amazing. They are ready and eager to bite on anything you have to sell, including much higher priced items that are very specific to their needs.

They will also be very willing to let you use their words of praise– all you have to do is ask. Many of them will also freely spread word about you and your products, especially if you ask them.

These simple tweaks can boost your business in amazing ways.
