Wouldn’t it be terrible if your goal in life was to climb an incredible, beautiful, challenging mountain? You’d know starting out that it’s going to be challenging, but it would be worth it.
You see some beautiful sights along the way and you feel really motivated—especially in the beginning. But knowing that there will be obstacles and then dealing with the reality of it is a different thing.
Your motivation starts to wane, but you truck along. Finally, you’re tired of struggling and you’re not even sure you’ll ever reach the top of that mountain.
So, you give up.
What you didn’t realize is that you just couldn’t see the peak, but it was right there… if you’d only kept going a few more steps, you would have made it—you would have achieved what you’d set out to do. But, you gave up.
I think you can see where I’m going with this. Your journey as an entrepreneur is much the same way. You are in business because you want to accomplish a lot of wonderful things. You have big goals, monetary and otherwise, that you want to accomplish.
You know for sure that the journey is going to be challenging and there will be ups and downs and all of that. But you want to do it anyway.
It starts to get tough and you start to wonder if it’s all really worth it. You start to lose sight of your goal and you don’t know that you’ll ever achieve your goal anyway.
You’re tired of struggling. You wonder if there’s an easier, better way to achieve your goals. You can see other paths in business and some of them might look less treacherous. Looks can be deceiving, though.
You give up on the path you’re on—you give up in business. There’s a bright, shiny object that seems to be calling your name. What you didn’t realize is that success was just around the corner. Unfortunately, you gave up prematurely.
I’m sure you’ve had this experience before—I think we all have.
So what you have to train yourself to do is to not give up when the going gets tough.
You have to know that it’s going to be hard but that success will be just around the corner. I know that’s easier said than done, but it’s something we’ve all been through.
That’s why it’s important to do a lot of mindset work. When you work on your mindset, you become one of those unstoppable people who will stop at nothing to succeed.
The only difference (and I mean this literally) between you and those who’ve achieved their goals is that those people kept going. They clawed their way to the top of that mountain and it was worth it.
There’s no such thing as an easy, overnight success. That doesn’t exist. Those people who you think have it so much easier than you simply kept on going.
If you have a habit of giving up prematurely in your business, then this is a message you really need to hear.
Just don’t give up.
Why Are You Doing This?
In order to not give up, you have to be really, really sure about why you’re on that mountain. You can’t be doing it just because you have a vague idea that you’d like to earn more money. You can’t be doing it because you’re bored.
You have to be on that mountain, you have to be in this business, for a really important reason.
What is your reason why for being in business?
Part of it, or all of it, might be to provide a better life for your family. Maybe you have a dream of giving back and really leaving an impact on the world.
Whatever it is, figure it out. Knowing this is so important. Right now you might have just a foggy idea of the reason why… but you need to have a really solid idea. This has to be the reason you get up and do what you do every day.
Set your goals very solidly. Be very detailed and specific about your short term and long term goals.
I suggest you revisit your goals every day. This is going to help you keep going. When the path is tough and there are obstacles in your way, then this is what can help you keep going anyway.
If You Start to Give Up…
What do you do if you start to give up or if you’re trying to decide if you should?
Go back to those goals and your reason why for being in business. Is it worth it? I think you will find that it is.
And maybe instead of giving up, you should instead see if there’s a different path on the same mountain you can take.
With a little tweaking or revamping, you will find that you won’t have to give up. You can keep on going.
What if You Really Are on the Wrong Path?
You might be wondering what you should do if you find that you’re really on the wrong path and that you don’t think you should continue with your business model at all.
You have to decide whether you’re fooling yourself and just giving up, or if you really are on the wrong path.
Do some soul searching. Don’t just give up… but give yourself permission to if there’s something out there that’s more in line with who you are and want you want.
Don’t Give Up Prematurely
There are no right answers here. This is something only you can figure out for yourself.
Stay the course. Find tools to make your job easier. Be consistent. Know that success is right around the corner.
Surround yourself with successful people and with successful ideas and that will give you more stamina as well.
Revisit your goals on a regular basis.
Keep going, keep going, keep going. Your persistence, and the fact that you’re not giving up prematurely, will be what helps you find success.
