How to Boost Your Energy So You Can Get More Done (Podcast # 107)

You’re feeling very low energy these days. Your energy’s nowhere near what it used to be for you. In days past, you’d get up early, get a ton done before lunch, enjoy a nice break, and then finish off the day with the energy of a teenager.

You’d even have time left over to have fun and do what you wanted to in the evenings. Life was good. These days, it’s nothing like that.

These days, you’re lucky to get half the things done that are on your daily to-do list. You’re really struggling. You’re super unproductive. Your to-do list is passing you by and you aren’t sure what to do about it.

If only get back half of the energy you used to have, then you might have a chance.

Is it even possible?

What happened to you? You feel your body, mind, and spirit have totally changed. Maybe it’s a product of age or maybe it’s a product of the things that life has thrown at you. In many cases, it’s the combination of all of the above.

The fact is that you’re not ready to throw in the towel and you never will be. You’re stronger than that, even if you don’t feel like it right now.

You’re ready to regain your energy. You know that if you can boost your energy you can get so much more done and achieve our goals. Let’s talk about ways you can do that, even if you feel like you’ll have to crawl over the START line, much less the FINISH line.

Before we dive into methods of getting your energy back, I will warn you that some of these are things you’ve heard before. For example, we all know, even if we don’t pay much attention to it, the fact that healthy diet and exercise are surefire ways to regain energy. It’s easier said than done, but it is tried-and-true advice. No, it’s not “sexy” – but it does work.

In addition to the things we all know and have a hard time doing, we’re also going to talk about some out-of-the-box ways to regain energy.

If you’re committed to this, you can make it work, you can regain your energy, and you can be more productive in your business and in your life in general. You can feel better and healthier and happier overall.

What’s Zapping Your Energy?

Before we go further, let’s talk about what’s zapping your energy in the first place. It might be that you have some poor habits that are leading to negative consequences.

Let’s go ahead and talk about your diet. What are you eating on a daily basis? That old adage that, “you are what you eat,” is absolutely true. If all you’re doing is feeding your body with junk, then you’re going to get low energy as a result.

Do you exercise? Even though you expend energy while you exercise, it also energizes your body and ensures that you are healthy. If you don’t exercise, you will just become less and less energetic over time- to the point where you’re unhealthy, prone to disease, overweight, and depressed.

Do you tend to be very stressed out lately? If you’re very stressed out, then that can definitely take away from your energy.

You will also tend to have less energy and more stress if you are overwhelmed with your work. So, that’s something we’ll discuss as well.

What’s zapping your energy differs depending on who you are. It’s time to sit down and do a self-assessment. Brainstorm what you think is taking your energy away. If you need to, visit with your doctor and see if there are any nutritional deficiencies or lifestyle changes that need to be taken into account.

Eating Better and Working out

Let’s talk about eating better and working out. I promise you that I’m not going to tell you to eat terrible and uninspiring foods. This isn’t about depriving yourself.

However, you will have more energy if you eat healthy, whole foods instead of junk foods. This isn’t about eating chemical laden “low calorie” foods that have become so popular. This is about eating like your mother, grandmother, and her mother ate. Get back to local, healthy farm foods, for example. Don’t eat packaged foods.

Get out and take a walk around the block, if you tend not to be very active these days. Even that small step, literally, can really help. You’ll be surprised that if you take a walk for around 30 minutes per day, you will start to feel more and more energetic. Particularly if you’re cutting out the junk food and eating healthy whole foods instead.

Coffee and Caffeine

You can definitely gain bursts of energy by drinking and consuming coffee and other caffeine containing foods and drinks. For the most part, I’m focused on improving energy and well-being overall, but I’d be remiss not to add this to the list.

I do want you to know that caffeine can actually cause problems for some people… However there are many proven health benefits as well. So, if coffee is right for you, then by all means consume it. It is definitely a staple for many people in business and can give you an instant boost of energy.

Taking Care Of What’s Ailing You in Life

This is a bit outside the box. But if you truly want to have more energy, then it’s time to think about what’s draining your energy in the first place. I’m not talking about physical things – I’m talking about things that are going on mentally, emotionally, and even spiritually.

There are these emotional and energy vampires that are draining you. There are things that you think about that really disturb you and that weigh on you. There are people in your life who are draining your energy.

Are there things you can let go?

Are there things that you can think about in the new way?

Are there things and people you can protect yourself from?

Are there things you can take action on to improve and simplify your life so you can have more energy?

If possible, start to take control of the things you can control. Start to release the things you can’t control.

If you take steps to release the stress in your life, (which also happens with proper diet and exercise, by the way) then you should start to see an increase in your physical energy and your emotional energy. You’ll be better able to tackle your everyday life.

Work When You Work and Play When You Don’t

Another reason you might not have enough energy is that you are constantly working. If you work online and/or if you own your own business, or any combination of the two, then the chances are good that you have a problem with turning it off. You feel like you constantly have to be working. You’re never separated from your work.

That’s a problem. You’re never physically separated from your work. You’re never mentally or emotionally separated from your work. That weighs on you and stresses you out. This drains you of energy.

If you want to save your sanity and get more energy – so you can actually be more productive – then you have to set solid work hours. When it’s not work time, then you’re not working.

Even though you work for yourself, you have to respect yourself as a worker. You have to be a good boss to yourself. Respect yourself enough to do this.

The great thing is that you should have a very positive outcome in the fact that you will have more energy and get more done in the long run. It’s very much worth it to pay attention to this.

What Else Can You Do to Gain More Energy?

Now it’s your turn. Start to do some brainstorming about what you can do in your own life to gain more energy so you get more done in life and business. It all starts with you – it all starts with what’s draining you of energy – mentally, physically, and emotionally.

I hope this has inspired you and that you are determined to feel like you used to feel and to get as much done as you used to get done – or more.
