I can’t emphasize this enough— one of the main differences between those who succeed and those who don’t is a willingness to push forward no matter what happens. At no point should you say, “this is too hard, there are too many things against me, and I’ll never succeed.”
You can’t become successful if you’re always coming up with excuses and reasons why you can’t make it happen. It takes practice to develop this mindset but it’s very important.
Have the mindset that the glass is half full. Not everything will be perfect all the time but that’s okay. You can learn more and do better when the path is rougher. It will make you better and stronger. Are you going to let the obstacles knock you down or are you going to find a way to accomplish your goals no matter what happens?
Have the Motivation (Your Why)
It’s all well and good to decide to have this mindset but it’s another thing altogether to actually live it. The fact is that if you aren’t fully motivated you most likely won’t follow through. Success never comes in a straight line. If you don’t know what you want at the end of that line, you’ll be tempted to choose an easier path. You’ll give up, start on a new path, give up on that one, and maybe even give up altogether.
What is your motivation to succeed? What do you really need or want? You have to want it so bad that you can taste it. It has to feel completely inevitable that you’re going to accomplish your goals.
If you’re not sure what your motivation is you need to pause and work it out. Journaling can really help you. There’s a reason you’re driven to success and you need to pinpoint exactly what that is. The answer might surprise you.
Have the Strategy
It definitely helps to have the right strategy. Choosing a strategy you have confidence in can help you avoid unnecessary obstacles. That’s why it helps to learn from those who’ve come before you. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel. Educate yourself before you get started. Use a business strategy that’s been proven to work. Hire a coach or find a mentor if you need to.
I want to mention that while it’s best to learn more about a strategy before you dive in, that doesn’t mean you should spend all your time learning. You’ll always learn a lot more by doing than you will by reading or watching someone else. Don’t let yourself get stuck in learning mode. A successful person knows how to quickly absorb information and put it into practice.
Know When to Separate Emotions
It’s impossible to be completely emotionless in your marketing, as much as you might want to try. Emotion can certainly drive you to action. But there comes a time when emotion is not useful at all. Sometimes, you have to turn the emotion off and push through to success. How do you know the difference?
It comes down to personal assessment. Are the emotions you’re feeling right now helping you or holding you back? Learn how to take control of your emotions to turn them into positive energy you can use to move forward with your business. If your emotions are holding you back it’s time to try a different strategy.
Successful people know how to separate facts and best practices from their emotions. They know how to make decisions the right way.
I’ve found that simply paying attention to your emotions and how you feel is very helpful. Many of us operate on emotion every day without being mindful that we’re doing it. You have to train yourself to be more aware so you can take control.
Emotions and Decision Making
It’s easy to let your emotions get in the way when it comes time to make important decisions. Some people tend to make decisions based on instinct or a gut feeling. There’s certainly nothing wrong with that as long as it’s productive for you. Others tend to make decisions that are based solely on fact. They completely remove themselves and their feelings from the decision. That’s fine too— again, the method used isn’t as important as the results.
But something has to give if you find that your emotions consistently hold you back. Do you stew over seemingly simple decisions for days? Do you tend to make poor decisions because your emotions have gotten in the way? It’s time for a new strategy.
Write down the facts and be mindful of your gut instinct if that’s something you value. Don’t let anxiety and fear enter into the decision making process. Eliminate unnecessary feelings and data. This will help you make better decisions overall, following in the pattern of the world’s most successful people.
Emotions and Mindset
On a scale from 1 to 10, how would you rate your mindset? Is your mindset conducive to productivity, creativity, and success? Or, do you tend to think you’ll fail? Does your anxiety or negative thinking get in the way? Your emotions have everything to do with this.
It’s next to impossible to become successful if you have a poor mindset. Keep your emotions in check and take steps to figure out how what you do and what you feel affects your mindset. I think you’ll find that being more mindful of this is very helpful.
Think about how these things apply to the obstacles that are in your way. Obstacles don’t have to matter to you anymore. You can improve your mindset, bust down your obstacles, and achieve a level of success that far surpasses what you’ve experienced before. You get to shape your own life—you get to determine your own success.
