Habits and How You Treat Yourself

How do you talk to yourself about your habits, successes, and failures? Do you tend to beat yourself up when you fall short? I think, to a certain extent, that we all do. But if you’re constantly berating yourself and feeling sorry for yourself, then the chances are good that you’re setting yourself up for failure.

It’s important to start monitoring your internal dialogue. When you fail to complete a project on time, do you say things to yourself like, “Great job, dummy. You stink at this!”?

You’re not alone in those thoughts. It’s time, though, to change how you speak to yourself. It’s important to speak differently to yourself if you want to change your habits for the better.

Why should you try to change if it’s going to be really uncomfortable, different, and weird if you succeed? Your whole view of yourself has to change, whether you succeed or fail. It almost seems like it’s not worth it.

It’s time to move past that mindset—it’s a huge part of what’s really holding you back.

Action Taking vs. Info Gathering

There comes a time when you really have to just start taking more action. You can’t read, study, watch, and learn for the rest of your life if you want to be truly successful.

That might seem obvious on the surface, but is it, really?

If you’re caught constantly learning, there’s never room for taking action. There are only so many hours in a day, right? It’s really important to pay attention to how you spend those hours.
