As a self-published author, you’re always looking for ways to earn more money with your books. To do that, you have to think about the needs of your audience. What do they want?

No matter whether you write fiction or nonfiction, writing a series of books can often be a great idea. Think about what people want after they finish a book… If they really liked the book, then they want more, more, more.

In the case of fiction, they want to know more about the characters in the world you built.

In the case of nonfiction, they want to know more about the topic you covered, including new information, different angles on the information, advanced information, and so on.

Easily Writing a Nonfiction Book

Many people who are new to self-publishing would rather write a nonfiction book than a fiction book. That’s not the case with everyone, of course. But, there’s something about writing nonfiction that seems less daunting than writing fiction. After all, you’ve no doubt written nonfiction before, at least in some capacity. You’ve written essays for school and things like that.

It’s also the case that writing nonfiction can be very profitable. There are tons of hot selling books on Kindle that have been written by self-published authors. I will caution you that it might be easier to make money with fiction on Kindle. But, that’s not to say that there’s no money to be made with nonfiction. There certainly is – as long as you know which book topics are likely to sell.

It’s always better to write something you’re more comfortable with if that means you’ll actually get the writing done. There are many people who want to self-publish, but who are too intimidated by trying to chase the hottest or best topic that they never follow through and write. If you feel confident that you can write a nonfiction book, then this is the best way forward for you.

How to Outline a Fiction Book

If you want to earn great money writing books and self-publishing, then you might want to consider writing fiction.

If you’ve written fiction before, then you might feel ready to jump back in and start publishing as soon as possible. There are plenty of opportunities in the sales charts to really earn a great income putting your skills and experience to use.

But, what if you’ve never written fiction before? It can be really intimidating to get started. For whatever reason, many people I talk to seem to think that it’s a lot easier to write nonfiction than it is to write fiction. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that you have to create entire worlds, storylines, characters, and concepts when you’re writing fiction. It’s easier when you’re writing nonfiction because you typically don’t have to invent anything. You might write based on fact or opinion or research.
