Building Backlinks

3d LinksBuilding backlinks is a big part of ranking well in the search engines like Google. So, how do you build backlinks? It’s important to be creative and build your link profile over time.

You can’t just submit tons of articles to tons of different spammy article directories and expect to succeed. You can’t just spam blog comments and expect to zoom to the top of Google in no time. It takes some hard work, some smarts, and some patience.

The first thing I want you to know is that you should not be scared of building links. Yes, there are search engine optimization experts out there who will charge you a ton of money to make it happen. But, this really is a case of slow and steady wins the race. It is much better to have high quality, relevant back links then it is to pay for a high-priced package to have your link spammed all over the web.

Researching Bestsellers

Market research word cloud, business conceptThere’s a lot that goes into publishing a book that does well on the charts. It makes sense to do some early prep-work to make sure you’re on the right path. Rarely can you just come up with a topic, write on that topic, and watch the sales start rolling in.

Readers know what they like. There are ebbs and flows with certain topics. What’s hot today might not be hot tomorrow. If you don’t write on a topic people are interested in and willing to spend money on, you might be wasting your time. You’ll end up disappointed when it comes time to check your sales ranks and earnings.

Of course, you might have reasons for publishing that are different than making a lot of money. Maybe you have a specific business or product you want to promote. Maybe you want to become known as the go-to person on a certain topic and just want to make use of the credibility that naturally comes as a result of having published a book, even if that book never goes on to become a bestseller.

It’s frustrating because we know how important it is to be creative in business, but we just can’t seem to find a way to let those ideas in. You expect them to just come to you, but you’re stressed, out of practice, and unsure of the next steps.

The first step is to decide to become more creative. You’ve already done that by nature of reading this—the decision has already been made. You’re wondering if it’s possible, and I’m telling you it absolutely is, as long as you’re ready to open your mind to it.

How to Choose a Topic

3D Hot Topic CrosswordThere seems to be two camps of people when it comes to choosing a topic when creating a product. There are those who already have a topic in mind and really don’t want to stop to do any digging or research beforehand—they’re sure their idea is a good one. Then, there are those who research, research, research. They stew over this topic idea and that topic idea and are ultimately unsure of which to go with.

I’m going to make an argument that you should be somewhere in the middle. The problem with those who get an idea in mind and just run with that topic is that they most likely won’t know if it’s truly a great, profitable topic. You might spend all this time working on a product only to find that it’s not a good topic at all.

More about Focus

I focus on what matters“Why can’t I just focus?”

That’s something we’ve all said to ourselves during stressful workdays. We have a pile of work to do but can’t seem to get anything done.
