Step Two:  Capture the Opt-In

Your next step is to create an opt-in form on your site so that your prospects can request your lead magnet.

SIDEBARThe first thing you need to do is get an account with a reputable third-party email service provider (ESP) such as Aweber.com, GetResponse.com, iContact.com or a similar service.

Once you’ve secured an ESP account, then you can go about the task of setting up your opt-in form on your website. Check your ESP’s documentation for instructions on how to create this form and get it onto your site.

Driving Traffic to Build Your List

Driving traffic is a hugely important piece of the puzzle when it comes to building your list.

Many people get discouraged because they set up a squeeze page and put an opt-in form on their blog or website… only to find that they’re not actually getting anyone to sign up. This tends to happen when people have the “if you build it, they will come” mentality. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. The only way to get traffic is to work hard at getting traffic.

If you don’t have any traffic coming in, or you have just a trickle here and there, then there’s no way to know if your squeeze page is actually working and converting or not.
