The Importance of Building a List

Comic book explosion with text Sign-Up NowBelieve me when I say this—building a list is the most important thing you can do for your business. It doesn’t matter who you are or what your business is, it’s so important to have a way to connect with and contact your audience directly.

There’s a lot of talk and interest in building up Twitter followers and Facebook likes these days. Sometimes, it’s easy to lose sight of your true goals and believe that these are the be-all, end-all in business.

Really, those things should be a means to an end. You should have Twitter followers as a way of connecting with others in your audience and funneling people to your email list. You should work to get Facebook likes as a way of being seen in your niche, building relationships, and… funneling people to your email list.

How Often to Send Emails

E-mail ConceptIt’s important to have a careful balance when it comes to email marketing. You want to earn great money with your emails… but you want to develop relationships too.

You’ve been on the wrong end of things as a list subscriber yourself, I’m sure. Some marketers send way, way too many marketing emails to you. You might have even unsubscribed from a list run by a marketer you otherwise liked because it got to be too much.

You don’t want to offend your list members like that. Sure, you’re never going to please everyone, but that doesn’t mean you want to fall into a “churn and burn” pattern. The marketers who do that don’t care about anything but the sale. They don’t care if you unsubscribe because they’ll just get more people on their list to wear out.

Monetizing Autoresponders

business email marketing content connection on people backgroundEmail marketing is one of the best ways to develop passive income. If you use an autoresponder company (and you definitely should), you can write and store emails in your account that automatically get sent out to your list subscribers. These emails can contain links that sell products you believe in—either your own products or products you’re promoting as an affiliate.

You could choose to store enough content to last a year or more, if you wanted to. Write 100 emails over time, add links to them, and load them up into your autoresponder account. Set them to deliver every few days or a couple times a week or whatever works for you.

How is this passive? It’s passive because these emails will go out to new subscribers at the preset intervals you’ve determined ahead of time. Ideally, you’ll design a list-building funnel that will work for you day and night. So, someone who joins your list today will get your email sequence in order—they’ll see the emails where you teach things and emails where you sell things. They’ll buy from you.
