Hofstadter’s Law

Performance Improvement on Metal Gears. How long is your list of goals? It’s probably a mile long… or close to it. How long is your to-do list at the start of the day? You might start the day smiling because you think you’re going to get everything done. You’re motivated and pumped up, right?

Not so fast. There’s something called Hofstadter’s Law to contend with. If you constantly find yourself with huge goals and to-do lists that you’re sure you can get done…but you’re constantly missing the mark, missing deadlines, and feeling frustrated with your lack of productivity, then Hofstadter’s Law is definitely something you’ll want to pay attention to.

Pulcini Uccelli Blu Cartoon-Blue Birds Chicks-VectorMany marketers and others who are desperate for traffic really like the idea of Twitter, but are stumped on how to get followers in the first place. After all, if you don’t have Twitter followers you’re basically tweeting to yourself, and that’s no fun.

Building Backlinks

3d LinksBuilding backlinks is a big part of ranking well in the search engines like Google. So, how do you build backlinks? It’s important to be creative and build your link profile over time.

It makes sense to do some early prep-work to make sure you’re on the right path. Rarely can you just come up with a topic, write on that topic, and watch the sales start rolling in.

Readers know what they like. There are ebbs and flows with certain topics. What’s hot today might not be hot tomorrow. If you don’t write on a topic people are interested in and willing to spend money on, you might be wasting your time. You’ll end up disappointed when it comes time to check your sales ranks and earnings.

Of course, you might have reasons for publishing that are different than making a lot of money. Maybe you have a specific business or product you want to promote. Maybe you want to become known as the go-to person on a certain topic and just want to make use of the credibility that naturally comes as a result of having published a book, even if that book never goes on to become a bestseller.

Have an ideaWe often get so jaded and stuck in our ways that creativity is all but shut down. It’s frustrating because we know how important it is to be creative in business, but we just can’t seem to find a way to let those ideas in. You expect them to just come to you, but you’re stressed, out of practice, and unsure of the next steps.

The first step is to decide to become more creative. You’ve already done that by nature of reading this—the decision has already been made. You’re wondering if it’s possible, and I’m telling you it absolutely is, as long as you’re ready to open your mind to it.
