The Art of Controversy

Hello, Jason Fladlien here from DailySeminar.com, and today I have a treat for you.  Here’s a little topic that I really like to talk about, and I use it.  A lot of people don’t see how I use it because I use it very subtly, but once I explain it to you, you’ll see it and you’ll also see its power.  And it’s something to consider adding to your toolkit of internet marketing tactics.  And that’s the art of controversy.

Controversy done properly sells.  I laugh because two days before creating this video, or one day before creating this video — I’m not sure which — I got an e-mail from kind of a big marketer.  In fact in 2008 he had a list of 857,000 people on his list.  And he threatened to sue me.

Why did he threaten to sue me?  He said I libeled him because on one of my sales pages I said “Look, I bought this guy’s product.  It was super overpriced, and basically it sucked.  I didn’t do what I thought it would.  I was just appalled by it, and that inspired me to give you this product.  Not only, in my opinion, do I think my product is better than his, but my product is only $37 when his product is almost $200.  Mine isn’t going to build you a million  list overnight, but then again it’s not supposed to.  It’s supposed to help you get started with…” and then I sold the product some more.

27 Ways to Use Content to Get Sales, part 6

21. Offer a Discount

If you’re selling your own products, then you can easily arrange for a discount for your newsletter subscribers. But even if you’re selling an affiliate offer, you can often arrange a special discount with the vendor, exclusive only to your subscribers.

Note: If you do arrange a discount with a vendor, keep in mind that it’s going to need to be a permanent, ongoing discount. Since this is an evergreen autoresponder series, you can’t offer a “limited time” discount.

Here’s an example…

Shortcut 1: Automate Your Site

The beauty of running a membership site is that there are plenty of tools you can use to automate your site. This includes:

  • Using a membership site script. If you use a full-featured script such as WishList or Amember, then you can do everything from manage members to schedule content effortlessly.
  • Setting up an autoresponder. If you’re running a vault site or fixed-term membership site, then you may opt to use an autoresponder to deliver content. You can upload evergreen content to your autoresponder and let your membership site run on autopilot.
  • Creating a hands-free affiliate program. If you use a platform like ClickBank.com, then you don’t even have to worry about cutting checks since the provider takes care of everything.

Take Charge of Your Mindset, part 1

So what is mindset?

Possibly, probably, the #1 predictor of success or failure

I sort of mentioned this in the beginning, but I don’t want to minimize this statement, this belief of mine and so many of my very successful entrepreneur friends: Mindset is very often the #1 predictor of success or failure.

Now sure, I know you know very successful people who have very successful careers, and they’ve risen through the ranks at their companies over the years to a position of importance, and they’re negative Neds or Nellies, but I’m talking about entrepreneurs, which I am and I’m guessing you either are or want to be… someone in control of your own destiny, someone not relying on someone else to give them a 5% or 10% raise each year, and a promotion every 5 to 8 years.

19. Sell Advertising Spots

Another way to introduce a stream of revenue into your business is by selling advertising spots in your emails and/or lessons. You can sell the ad spots directly for a flat price, or you can offer a flat price plus commission.

For example, you can sell ad spots in your “recommended resources” section of a lesson.

TIP: Be sure to thoroughly screen all potential advertisers before accepting their ads. You’ll want to research both the vendor and the product to be sure you’re dealing with some reputable who produces high-quality products.
